POSITION: Junior Agronomist
LOCATION: Marble hall

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Field Monitoring and Data Collection
  • Collect and report data on crop health, growth, development and environmental conditions and report to Senior Agronomist.
  • Identify pests, diseases, and stress factors in planted fields.
  • Identify acceptable fields and areas to plant.
 
Crop Management Support
  • Report crop development to growers and keep Agric system up to date.
  • Develop harvesting plans, including factory scheduling and coordinating with growers.
  • Negotiate and sign contracts for the purchase of raw products.
  • Determine harvesting dates and organize the transport.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain and Production.
 
Research and Trials
  • Support field trials on new varieties, and data capturing
  • Collect field data, report findings to Senior Agronomists.
 
Communication with Growers
  • Provide technical support and guidance to growers.
  • Communicate standards, requirements, and best practices.

Quality Control and Compliance
  • Conduct quality assessments on vegetable fields and give feedback to growers.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
 
Record-Keeping and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of field activities and observations.
  • Generate reports on field conditions, trials, and quality outcomes.
 
Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards
  • Adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate protective equipment.
  • Report any safety or environmental risks and support sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Degree in biological or agricultural science.
  • Technical Knowledge of crop management practices within the territory and product expertise.
  • 3-5 years’ field experience in potato production.
  • Analytical and creative skills to identify and take advantage of new business opportunities within the region.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Communication and human relation skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish relationships.
  • Must be able to speak Afrikaans and willing to re-locate or reside in Groblersdal.
  • Ability to travel in region daily and a valid driver’s license.
