External Sales Representative (Rustenburg - Mining)

POSITION: External Sales Representative
LOCATION: Rustenburg
REPORTING TO: Sales Manager

Purpose of the Job:
  • To drive sustainable growth by promoting and selling the company’s products and services to the hard rock underground
  • mining sector, with a focus on PGMs in Rustenburg. The role builds long-term customer relationships through professional
  • sales skills, technical product knowledge, and exceptional service. Regular travel and face-to-face engagement with
  • mining clients are essential to ensure customer satisfaction, repeat business, and market expansion across South Africa
  • and into Africa.

Description:
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with mining houses, contractors, and engineering teams through.
  • face-to-face engagement and technical support.
  • Drive business growth by identifying new customers, products, and markets.
  • Execute proactive sales activities (cold calling, lead follow-up, product demonstrations) to achieve monthly and
  • annual sales targets.
  • Provide technical advice and after-sales support, addressing customer complaints related to surface and
  • underground mining applications.
  • Monitor and report on market intelligence, competitor activity, and sales trends to inform company strategy and
  • assure growth.
  • Manage the full sales cycle: quotations, order tracking, stock availability updates, and customer communication.
  • Prepare accurate monthly sales reports and participate in sales meetings, trade shows, and exhibitions as required.
  • Conduct customer surveys to measure satisfaction and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with mining safety regulations and company governance standards in all sales activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Matric (Grade 12) required. Business, Marketing or Technical qualifications are an advantage.
  • Demonstrated success in selling hard-rock underground mining operations (PGMs).
  • Technical knowledge of underground mining consumables i.e. valves, snatch blocks, mining hose, etc. an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years’ proven sales experience in mining, industrial, or engineering environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to prepare reports, presentations, and forecasts; familiarity with CRM/ERP systems for sales tracking.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently from Rustenburg and surrounding mining areas.

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Technical & Industry Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of hard-rock underground mining processes, particularly PGM operations.
  • Ability to interpret mining requirements and match them with appropriate products, consumables, and services.
  • Familiarity with safety, health, and environmental regulations in South African mining.

Sales & Business Development Skills
  • Proven ability to generate new business opportunities and expand market share, including cross-border sales in Africa.
  • Skilled in negotiation, contract management, and closing deals under competitive conditions.
  • Track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets in a mining or industrial environment.
  • Customer Relationship Management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build long-term relationships with procurement teams, engineers, and mine managers.
  • Ability to handle customer complaints effectively, providing technical solutions for both surface and underground challenges.
  • Strong communication skills for product demonstrations, presentations, and trade show participation.
  • Analytical & Strategic Thinking
  • Competence in gathering and interpreting market intelligence to inform company growth strategies.
  • Ability to monitor sales trends and adjust approaches to meet regional and sector-specific demands.
  • Proactive problem-solving and adaptability in dynamic mining environments.
