POSITION: Refrigeration Technician
LOCATION: Durbanville

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Refrigeration Technician to join our maintenance team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, servicing, fault-finding and
repair of industrial refrigeration systems. Strong ammonia refrigeration experience is essential for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Install, maintain, service and repair industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on refrigeration equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical refrigeration faults.
  • Work on ammonia (NH₃) refrigeration systems and associated equipment.
  • Monitor refrigeration plant performance and identify potential problems.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves and refrigeration controls.
  • Carry out refrigeration plant start-ups, shutdowns and operational checks.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and service reports.
  • Ensure refrigeration equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and minimise equipment downtime.
  • Work closely with the maintenance and production teams.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area.
  • Assist with planned maintenance projects and equipment upgrades where required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Relevant Refrigeration / Mechanical qualification or trade qualification.
  • Proven experience as a Refrigeration Technician.
  • Hands-on ammonia refrigeration experience is essential.
  • Experience working with industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and refrigeration schematics.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration controls and associated electrical systems.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Good understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.

EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have experience with:
  • Industrial ammonia refrigeration plants.
  • Ammonia compressors and refrigeration circuits.
  • Condensers and evaporators.
  • Pumps, valves and pressure-control equipment.
  • Refrigeration control systems.
  • Preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Breakdown and fault-finding.
  • Refrigeration plant monitoring and optimisation.
